Gleaning Facebook: Why We Are Democrats

From Jim Geist:

Terrell...I wrote a letter about "Why I am a Democrat." I stole most of it from you, but gave you credit. It will take 1-2 days before the northern NJ paper Suburban Trends posts it. Just google Suburban Trends April 25 Jim Geist Why I want to be Democrat. It will really piss of the R's up here...and where I live it is mostly R's. Thanks. Did you or your Dad write that post? Who is the 122 yr. old man?

My reply:

I am the 63 year old Democrat, Jim. My crack about midlife and 122 is now two years out of date!! I lost my Dad in 1986. As an ultimate gadget guy, my Dad would have loved the internet.
I'm afraid my little branch is one of only a few on the Democratic side of our family tree. And the other branches seem to have been growing farther to the right over the last couple of decades!
I am glad my essay on "Why I am a Democrat" was useful to you.

Gleaning Facebook: Status

From The Book of (Facebook) Status, my next best-seller.

Everything you've ever lost is wedged in between the bed and wall. Go look!

Gleaning Facebook: Donate to CRBI!

Please donate to the Coosa River Basin Initiative -- it's easy, badly needed, and will help ME win a contest! I'd love to win a trip, or canoe or a kayak or even one of Joe's pictures!! <grin> But most of all I want CRBI to succeed in their mission for the kids of the future to continue to have access to a wonderfully diverse and healthy Coosa River system!

Yes, Mother. I remember standing in the parking lot of the Griffin/Spaulding County Hospital and watching you hold the little guy up to a window. Is that right?

Congratulations! @Ruth Shaw--18 great grandchildren, what a blessing! @Terry--Congrats, amazing that someone as young as you are could have a baby bro who is a grandfather. We don't agree on much politically, but we can completely agree that Alex is adorable.

Charles Reichel

I have just learned that our friend Charles Reichel died of a heart attack yesterday. I don't know many details yet, but I'm sure many of my friends family members remember Charles and Sharon from our Independence Day barbecues. Their daughter Carlyn is one of Brannon's dear friends since 4th grade.

Cara and Carsten were briefly my students at Alto Park and Cara with her husband Peter are the leaders of Prospect Theatre Company, wonderful playwrights, and my Facebook friends. Please keep this wonderful family in your thoughts and prayers.

I attended church with the Reichel's for many years at Holy Trinity Lutheran. He influenced me as a teenager with his joy for life and commitment to things eternal. That breaks my heart to hear, but I know he had a strong faith in Christ. Thanks for letting us know.
