This is a picture of the political signs in my front yard. The picture was taken by Andrew Buncombe of Britain's The Independent. He had seen our signs and stopped to sit on the back porch for a while and interview us about the state of this year's political contests -- especially the race between Q-Anon extremist Marjorie Taylor Greene and Marcus Flowers. I don't think he ended up using his interview with us in his writing but he did write a story about the "debate" between those candidates that night. |
Politics, like every human endeavor, is often messy — some might be tempted to use a smellier adjective . But we live in a republic, as Ben Franklin reminded us, IF we can keep it.
Our republic itself is on the ballot. The January 6 extremists win if the rest of us stay home. A republic only works if the people take democracy seriously.
Politics is sacred duty to those who revere true small-r republican and small-d democratic values.
