Gleaning Facebook: Eagle at Arrowhead

Big moment at Arrowhead yesterday morning! As I was showing off beaver dams and lodges to a group of Garden Lakes Elementary kindergarteners a bald eagle eavesdropped in lazy circles over our heads. I hope he was scouting the real estate in search of a potential homesite in the tall pines near our fish-filled lake.

They should reopen Powatan Beach. That would bring in the Spring breakers.

Our grandson Wesley was at Arrowhead with a group from Garden Lakes earlier in the week. He talked a lot about his field trip and Mr. Shaw.

Three AMAZING women, actually. The more you know them, the more you love and admire them.

Max Hester: "Here is Henry, the male Berry Bald Eagle, bringing a little meal in for his mate. he was so proud of himself you could hear him screaming for her for more than a minute. He needs to learn a lot from the osprey he chased during the spring - carry fish head on for better aero performance."

Gleaning Facebook: Doug walker & Eagles

Kudos to Doug Walker who came to our school yesterday and presented his pictures of Bald Eagles to our 150 fourth-graders. Thanks, Doug. Great pictures and a great story of our national emblem, their near extinction, and their remarkable comeback.
