Gleaning Facebook: Champion Tree

Back in the dark ages we ran a story about my friend Richard T. Ware in our newspaper, Broadside. I ran across these pictures today. Here Richard stands beside one of the ‘state champion’ trees he discovered. This is a White Oak at Chieftains Museum. (Corrected)

Terrell Shaw I had forgotten about that tree. I have pictures somewhere of a group of my fourth graders at the Chieftains tree. What happened to it?

Richard T. Ware I know it had a huge patch of concrete that was filling a hole where the tree was hollow, but I don't recall if it blew down or died and was cut. Perhaps it happened when I was in the army.

Richard T. Ware Terrell Shaw, ok I had no idea when this was taken. So, I don't know what happened to the tree.

Richard T. Ware No, I have not. Is there a giant tree there?

George Barton Richard T. Ware huge, turn right at the traffic light, if you are coming from Rome, church is on right, tree is right rear to church.

George Barton Newnan, Ga is full of beautiful trees, there is a huge willow oak at US 29 and Farmers Blvd.

Gleaning Facebook: Congressman John Davis

 My friend Wendy Davis is the niece of our Congressman from the sixties and seventies, John Davis. As a young teacher I was pleased to be introduced to Congressman Davis at the RNT news room where Sheila was working as a reporter at the time. I remember being impressed that he recited a poem to us; I don’t remember the poem or how it was appropriate to the conversation but it was. This thimble and a small campaign button are the only items in my collection from his races.

My family met John Davis in his office in DC when I was a kid. He knew my grandpa, “Judge Edwards” (founder of RNT). He took us via the underground train to the congressional cafeteria (as I recall...vague memories). Simpler times. Cool thimble.

Gleaning Facebook: Life-long Liar and Creep

Trump is credibly accused of rape, pedophilia, many instances of sexual assault. He has admitted in a recording of his own voice to repeated sexual assault. He has, by the thousands, set a new record for lies by a political leader.

Who do you say we should believe Lindsey? Is it more likely that thriteen year old rape victim is the liar, or proven liar and creep Trump? That respected reporter, or proven liar and creep Trump? War hero and life-long straight-arrow Mueller or life-long liar and cheat Trump?

Perfect. That grandiose signature is all over this tragedy. These deaths belong to him. That sweet baby and her desperate young daddy would be alive but for Donald John Trump's deliberately cruel policies.

I collect only American political items

 I enjoy collecting presidential mementos of all American political stripes. (For any friends who have stray political items that need a good home, I'm here for you!)

Till now, I have not collected buttons for 45. But lately I have seen a few items I might be willing to display.

Monday morning! 10 am till 11 am. Great stories aimed at middle grade kids (Third through sixth), but younger and older kids will enjoy it too. Everyone welcome. Some of the storytellers will be kids themselves.
