We had more stormy weather yesterday and overnight, and I ended up not getting out to canvass. I hope to make up for that today.
This morning got off to a great start and then turned awkward.
First, waking early, I opened the Spelling Bee game and saw the very appropriate pangram right away — EQUINOX — and went on to get all 18 words ABMBS [All By Myself Before Sheila]. That happens a few times a year and is occasion for great rejoicing.
Then I was off to McDonald’s for an Egg McMuffin...

...on my way to an early skin doctor appointment. I waited in the parking lot, finishing the McMuffin and waiting for Dr. Harris’s office to open. Finally went in at 7:50 — ten minutes early. How about that?
Oh, what’s that the receptionist is telling me?
Ahhhh. I am ten minutes and one month early. We had written the appointment in September instead of October. Ouch.
I spent a while at home “rolling nuts.” Then I was off on my morning walk, very late.
I stopped at the supposed western landing of Ridge’s Ferry to photograph a large tree the city had cut and a huge Shingle Oak that still stands. I forwarded the pictures to ChatGPT, which estimated that the cut tree showed about 60 to 70 growth rings — not nearly as old as I expected.
But when I uploaded a picture of the Shingle Oak, with my five-foot staff as a guide to scale, ChatGPT estimated its diameter at somewhere around 55–62 inches — an exceptionally large Shingle Oak — and suggested that it might be 150 to 225 years old.
