Gleaning Facebook: Thrift Shop Hat

From Carol Johnston's Facebook page:

This past July, my sister, Debi, took Mother to Hospitality House (a local thrift shop) where Mother loved going each Thursday. She went on Thursdays because seniors get a discount on Thursdays. Mother had an ability to see things others didn't see. She'd look around the shop and find some hidden gem whose value was not obvious to others. It wasn't all hidden treasures, though. She also enjoyed buying things whose value was simply they were pretty or she liked them.

On that Thursday, she saw this hat and bought it. A couple of us persnickety daughters protested, "Mother, you don't know who has worn that!" "You could get lice from old hats!"
Mother replied that she liked it, dismissed our concerns, put on the hat, and then posed for these photos. The look on her face makes me think she was smiling to herself at our protestations because, after all, what did it matter? It was just a hat, and she liked it.
I keep coming back repeatedly to these two photos. I just love them! They were taken July 8, 2021. Mother died on August 1st. I'm so glad she got to enjoy this hat. And we DID agree that it looked great on her.
