The Riverwalk Grows

Sheila and I, scofflaws that we are, have been using the new Little Dry Creek bridge already. It's not officially open. How nice it is to be able to walk upstream from our back yard all the way to Big Dry Creek without crossing a road. And before another year has passed, they say the bridge over Big Dry Creek will be installed. Then we'll be able to climb the levee in our back yard and follow the riverwalk all the way to the Armuchee Bypass, cross the river there and follow the walk past the Braves Stadium, Ridge Ferry Park, the library, to the Town Green, to the confluence of the Etowah and Oostanaula, cross the Robert Redden Bridge to Heritage Park and turn back up river back to our own back yard, right through the heart of town, without ever crossing a road!

Here are some photos from a couple of weeks of walks.

We were puzzled by this new memorial along the Mount Berry Trail. Someone went to a lot of trouble to create this little burial site and lined trail under two huge multi-trunked oaks. On anouther walk a few days later we ran into another fellow along the trail who knew the story....

... A much loved cat had died is now buried here. Lillian and Jordan were with us on that walk, and when Lillian reminds me, I'll add the cat's name.

We often see this gentleman fishing here at the pond near the Post Office.

I love to see the Loblolly Pines in spring with their flowers looking like...

..."Christmas Tree candles" out-of-season

The Whiletail Deer barely notice the walkers along the trail...

Big Dry Creek, just beyond this sign, is anything but dry right now. It supposedly will be bridged within the next year allowing a full circuit of Riverwalk along both sides of the river from the confluence to the Armuchee bypass and back.
