Gleaning Facebook: Blue Today

Barbara Is a dog whisperer! She brought Bunny and Roscoe to meet Blue. After a few minutes they are fast friends.

Comments

Katie S. Kimbrough
Aww sweet!

Howard Smith
Blue looks so happy to be with his new mom.

Barbara Crawford
Babysitter Howard Smith, babysitter.

Terrell Shaw
Barbara Crawford
Bunny and Roscoe can outvote you.

---------------------------------
Blue was agitated by the lightning and thunder tonight so — can you believe it — we just brought him with us here to Mother’s. He barked a little then wanted to explore everywhere, but finally settled down on the blanket Sheila brought and went to sleep.

Comments

Lynne Crothers Williams
Sounds more and more like he is home. Have you given in yet?

Jim Curry
No lighting and thunder for mine either. Expect the same with fireworks.

John Paul Schulz
are you still planning to find him a home?

Terrell Shaw
Yes! Are you and Dekie needing a new dog?
(We might request visitation rights.)

John Paul Schulz
Lord no. I was just funning you.

Terrell Shaw
I appreciate the sentiment, but you don't have to call me "Lord."

John Paul Schulz
Terrell Shaw
You earned it by giving of yourself for a poor homeless creature.

Anita Stewart
I am sooo glad Blue has learned how to warm your heart. I know he will miss his new family while you are in California.

John Paul Schulz
You need to take him with you to California

Barbara Crawford
Poor Blue's had a trying day!

Charity Gilchrist Nicholson
And, you know what they say about thunder in Dec? Snow will follow in a week!

Adrianne Askew
He has been blessed by you and your family. Blessed beyond measure.

Gleaning Facebook: Most Presidents Grow in Office

 I posted a quote....

John Dean: “Most presidents grow when they assume the office. Donald Trump has shriveled and shrunken — he’s become even smaller than we believed. Trump knows how to destroy but he has built absolutely nothing, other than the largest body of lies of any POTUS! He’s waste of a nation’s time.”

Comments

Sandra Pride

He's a waste of oxygen.

Brenda Ron Carroll

Umm you mean the John Dean of Watergate scandal and went to jail? Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black eh...except the pot is a heck of a lot blacker.

Terrell Shaw

John Dean was indeed guilty of colluding with Nixon Haldeman and Erhlichman, but realized his guilt and was then the key to bringing that crime to light. When the tapes were released, his testimony turned out to be almost word for word the truth.

Gleaning FaceBook: Awful Offal

There is no bottom to the cesspool. Donald John Trump is by far the most disgusting dung-dwelling creature ever to occupy our unitary executive and digs deeper into the sludge every day. When will this national outhouse be shoveled out? It will take a long train of honey wagons to haul off the awful offal.

In my faith tradition everyone is redeemable, but in his case it is very hard to imagine "whiter than snow" or the "foulest clean". When he is removed the entire executive mansion will need fumigation. Shame on any reasonably aware person who still tries to Febreze his filth with rosy posts. The stench cannot be stanched.

Gleaning Facebook: Christmas 2018

Christmas at Mother's house Ruth shaw at the center; Clockwise around her from bottom left: Lillian Shaw, Debi Lewis, Andrew Lewis, Gregg Lewis, Lisette Lewis, Terrell Shaw, Sheila Shaw

God's richest blessings this New Year, sent with much love

Oh to teleport to California for the afternoon!

“There must have been some magic in that too-small hat at Target…”

We didn't use icicle lights this year. I kinda miss them. After Christmas last year we found a great deal on LED icycle lights. We got rid of the others. When I put up a strand of the LEDs in Novemebr Sheila and I agreed they looked terrible! The "cool white" LEDs look downright industrial and make the other Christmas lights look yellow. So if you like the cool white LEDs we can make you a great deal on a pile of 'em.

Gleaning Facebook: The Battle

Gleaning Facebook: Still Available

Still available: sweet, handsome, smart, young dog. Just in time for Christmas. How he’d love a family with kids! Has his shots. About a year, maybe a year and a half old.

Comments

Howard Smith Blue looks so comfortable in what he hopes is his forever home!

Donald Murdock He sure looks comfy.
Lynne Crothers Williams
You two are a tough sell. What does a pooch have to do to get you to give in?

Claudia Kennedy Looks like he has found his home. All that is left is for him to convince you that he, such a handsome, smart creature, has chosen you to share his life.
Barbara Crawford
What a sweet boy

Renata Carlin Terrell, you can make this work.

Terrell Shaw This from the point of view of Casa de Carlin where the canines rule --- and outnumber the humans. (Not to mention the feline, reptile, and avian residents!) Remember we don't have a Danny willing to take Blue to the dog park every day! Actually, I love your place, (even Gary et al) and have been trying to gradually remake our backyard into a similarly inviting outside living room for our abode--- but without quite so extensive a menagerie. Just wish we could have the orange, tangerine, and avocado trees. See y'all soon!

Gleaning Facebook: Mattis Resigns In Protest

 Tow posts today:

----------------------

The last days of Trump are dangerous times. He is unglued, shooting himself in the foot time after time. Weakest, stupidest, most disturbed, crookedest president in history. Nixon was a traitor and a crook, and in his last days crazy and often drunk. This is scarier.

Mattis was the last grown-up among the close advisors to the infant in the oval office.
It is time for principled Republican office-holders (Are there any?) to step up and put country first.
Claiming he is shutting the government down to force the securing of our borders, the childish man in the White House is actually shutting down the agency charged with securing our borders.
Meanwhile, he fires the Defense Secretary, grants Putin and Assad and Iran their dearest wishes, and his Attorney General rejects the ethics ruling that he should recuse himself from the Mueller investigation.
Chaos.
Remember: the people did not choose this fool.

Gleaning Facebook: Clemmie!

We are going to see Clementine (and her parents) in just a couple of weeks! Then this Facebook wall will be inundated again with photographic evidence of her grandfather’s obsession with her. In the meantime here’s the paltry collection of recent images her mother has managed to post.

Selected Comments

Bob Doster

Speaking of paltry images brought to mind the reason that I'm on Facebook. Melissa (my daughter) got an Iphone , and was so excited about the app that would allow her to post pictures of my grands so easily. Eleventeen years later she has posted about 10 pictures.

Anita Stewart
My favorite is the cute little darling in the basket.

Sandra Pride
She looks as if she knows that she has a fan club and loves to please. Precious.

Tracy S Lawler
No stopping her exploring everything now! Enjoy!!

Ruth Baird Shaw
She is beautiful like her mother!

There were many other comments remarking on the beauty of my granddaughter.

Gleaning Facebook: Blue Tries to Settle In

Blue needs someone wifh a bigger basket. Sweet 21.4 lb mixed breed year-old house-broken loving dog ... has had his first round of shots. Free to a good home.

Chris Ozment
It looks like he already has a good home.

We went caroling at your moms today

Terrell, give it up!! Blue loves being a Shaw! Keep him. You really won’t regret it. I can just see you and Blue on walks around Rome.

Terrell Shaw
We cant keep him... there is a small part of me that would like to but no.

Peggy Clark Hargis
Aww but your making Blue even more Blue. He needs a home for Christmas and that home is yours.

Jill Sealy Salter
Terrell, can we talk soon? I am working on Jeremy. Our Katie has lost her best friend and ours, this year, Charlie. We had to let him go in April. Katie has been miserable since and needs some companionship. Jer is going to kill me, but it is true. How is he with kids? (Later Terrell note: Jill, how did I miss this message! We later found another home for Blue.)

Deborah Lake Dawson
Are you sure? He selected you, how can you not love him

------------------------------

OK he CAN fit this basket.

George Barton
I think his last name is going to be Shaw

Claudia Kennedy
Looks like the basket suits him!

Howard Smith
Ol' Blue is looking right at home.

Lynne Crothers Williams
He is starting to look very much at home. We were adopted years ago by a kitten who showed up in our yard. We ignored him for a day thinking he was the neighbors. When it became clear he wasn't we fed him, then took him to the vet. He was going to be an outside on,y cat. That didn't last either and he was with us for 14 years. Start figuring out who can keep him when you travel cause you've been adopted. Clementine will love him.

Cindy Smith
He looks right at home

Raymond Atkins
It's good to see that you have accepted the inevitable.

Around here, we call that "The Hotep Syndrome."

Sherre Harrington

Donald Murdock
He sure looks at home to me.

Gleaning Facebook: Pierce on a Vicious Buffoon

I wish I had written this. Charles Pierce expresses my opinion here with near perfection.

"In my life, I have watched John Kennedy talk on television about missiles in Cuba. I saw Lyndon Johnson look Richard Russell squarely in the eye and and say, "And we shall overcome." I saw Richard Nixon resign and Gerald Ford tell the Congress that our long national nightmare was over. I saw Jimmy Carter talk about malaise and Ronald Reagan talk about a shining city on a hill. I saw George H.W. Bush deliver the eulogy for the Soviet bloc, and Bill Clinton comfort the survivors of Timothy McVeigh's madness in Oklahoma City. I saw George W. Bush struggle to make sense of it all on September 11, 2001, and I saw Barack Obama sing 'Amazing Grace' in the wounded sanctuary of Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina.
"These were the presidents of my lifetime. These were not perfect men. They were not perfect presidents, god knows. Not one of them was that. But they approached the job, and they took to the podium, with all the gravitas they could muster as appropriate to the job. They tried, at least, to reach for something in the presidency that was beyond their grasp as ordinary human beings. They were not all ennobled by the attempt, but they tried nonetheless.
"And comes now this hopeless, vicious buffoon, and the audience of equally hopeless and vicious buffoons who laughed and cheered when he made sport of a woman whose lasting memory of the trauma she suffered is the laughter of the perpetrators. Now he comes, a man swathed in scandal, with no interest beyond what he can put in his pocket and what he can put over on a universe of suckers, and he does something like this while occupying an office that we gave him, and while endowed with a public trust that he dishonors every day he wakes up in the White House.
"The scion of a multigenerational criminal enterprise, the parameters of which we are only now beginning to comprehend. A vessel for all the worst elements of the American condition. And a cheap, soulless bully besides. We never have had such a cheap counterfeit of a president* as currently occupies the office. We never have had a president* so completely deserving of scorn and yet so small in the office that it almost seems a waste of time and energy to summon up the requisite contempt.
"Watch how a republic dies in the empty eyes of an empty man who feels nothing but his own imaginary greatness, and who cannot find in himself the decency simply to shut up even when it is in his best interest to do so. Presidents don't have to be heroes to be good presidents. They just have to realize that their humanity is our common humanity, and that their political commonwealth is our political commonwealth, too.
Watch him behind the seal of the President of the United States. Isn't he a funny man? Isn't what happened to that lady hilarious? Watch the assembled morons cheer. This is the only story now."

- Charles Pierce

Gleaning Facebook: Kymby Helps Blue Get a Bath

Our little neighbor helps Sheila give Blue a bath in the mudroom sink. She REALLY wants to adopt him. Anyone who knows her grandmother or her mom and dad are urged to use your powers of persuasion, coercion, guilt-tripping etc in this noble cause!

Comments

Donald Murdock
That would make a wonderful Christmas gift for he. Every kid needs a dog.

Anita Stewart
So he is finally named. I like Blue, however, Blue Shaw sounds even better.

Ann Allee McRay
I agree with you Bo.

Theresa Dave Marshall
I agree! Kymby needs a puppy

Megan Marshall
That is so cute, and we will happily look for a home for Blue, but.... I don't even like the pets I already have...

Braedan Marshall
I’ll take the dog if it means getting my sister and niece back to Oklahoma. (*Disclaimer* I won’t take the dog.)

We've Been (Temporarily?) Adopted!

Veggin’ at the vet’s. Lord only knows what this is gonna cost. So far: 21.4 lbs. No chip. Sweet behavior. Hates leash. Cries a LOT. Likes laps. Blood and fecal tests underway.

Comments

Donald Murdock
It will win you a lot more than it will cost! Seems he’s found his humans. Likes laps? Wait till he discovers your bed!

Claudia Kennedy
Scott M Anna has a dog who looks identical to your dog. Facebook him. Twins. I promise.

George Barton
try a harness instead of a collar, some dogs do better that way.

Anita Stewart
You need to give baby Shaw a first name. She looks like a traveling dog, perhaps except for California. She could be your escort at work and would be a super partner during storytelling. Just say she is "your therapy dawg" when you are missing Clementine. She needs a good mom and dad.

Deborah Lake Dawson
Bless you!

Gleaning Facebook: Bitter Losses But Take Heart

Moderates and progressives take heart! We may have lost another round of senate seats and governor races in the south in 2018, but it was mighty close and the trend is in our direction. Let's keep registering voters and lets vote EVERY time the polls open.

Comments

Thomas Bavis

And my goodness, so much work to do to counter the - there's no more appropriate word than cheating - in the form of gerrymandering, voter suppression, outright fraud (N.C.), and lame-duck evisceration of the incoming Executives' authority. I'm a lifelong GOTV guy, but it may not be enough without addressing these as well!

Lynne Crothers Williams

Gerrymandering is not unique to either party and with early and advanced voting inGeorgia, voter access is easier than ever.

Terrell Shaw

But computer mapping has greatly intensified partisan Gerrymandering. Both parties have been guilty. the GOP has perfected it, and in 2018 are the primary beneficiaries of it. In Wisconsin, for example, the Democratic party has only 36% of the legislative seats despite winning a healthy majority of the votes. That is just plain obscene.

Gleaning Facebook: 2018 Democratic Nominees

I am so proud of our Democratic candidates -- Lindy Miller is one -- for statewide office this year. They were a great group and Georgia missed an opportunity for reform-minded, progressive leaders who would have moderated the hard-right legislature that has so damaged our state over the last two decades.

The fact that we ended up shut-out entirely is very disappointing, of course, but please keep up the fight! We have made tremendous gains. All of our races were close. We made gains in the legislature.
2022 may be the year that we break back into to a statewide office or two or more. And we should make more gains in the legislature in 2020. If the Trump administration continues to trash the environment, stifle the economy, and stain the nation's reputation in the world we may be ready to elect a US Senator in 2020.

Stifle the economy? If you keep telling untruths, some people will believe them. Amazing
Terrell Shaw Ask the soybean farmers, the auto workers, or even the coal miners. Although the Obama recovery has continued, it has slowed during the brinkmanship and uncertainty of the Trump madness.
Sandra Pride It looks like you have no trouble believing Tiny's lies.
