Gleaning Facebook: Infrastructure

"What investing in the obvious necessary maintaining and improving of America's infrastructure would mean to our economy and job market is obvious. What is not so obvious is why Republicans oppose this investment?" - Howard Smith

I hope I am not on one of them when it collapses from old age

Republicans (the Politicians leading the way) oppose for one, FEMA, until like GOV. Chris Christie did, decided to get the help his state (locale) needed by kissing up to the President to show him around when the natural disaster hit there. FEMA were first responders to my neighborhood when the 94 Palm Sunday tornado hit my street and neighborhood in Lindale. Never was so glad to see any one while peering out on all that destruction.

Totally agree, Jonathan Ingram! Need a moratorium on NEW highway construction starting now and every penny spent on maintenance and making our existing roads safe. There are many state two-lanes that need wider shoulders, dangerous curves straightened and some blind hilltops graded down to eliminate unsafe passing, stripes repainted for night and rain driving, etc. Bridges replaced, yes. But you won't get the developers on board for any of that and they're the ones who drive the legislatures and local governments to plan our transportation spending. Sickening that selfish money interests have such a grip on our governments.
