Ken Burns and Me on the Election

From Ken Burns:

I've spent more than four decades making films that tell America’s stories, and examining the crises—internal and external—that we have faced as a nation, including threats to our democracy.

From the Civil War to the Great Depression, from the First and Second World Wars to the COVID-19 pandemic, these crises have challenged us to live up to the essential promise of our nation, preserving a democratic system of government that respects the rights and addresses the needs of all its citizens.

Today, challenges to our republic are rampant. The democratic values that make up the very fabric of our nation are under assault and at risk of unraveling. It’s never been more important to safeguard our fragile democracy: as Benjamin Franklin so wisely put it, "A Republic, if you can keep it."

From me:

With the slimmest margin possible in the Senate and a tiny majority in the House in two years, despite the double whammy of the pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the resulting soaring worldwide inflation, we have managed to restore America's standing in the world, and pass some very helpful legislation:

• the American Rescue Plan
• the bipartisan infrastructure law
• the bipartisan safer communities act
• PACT act
• the CHIPS and Science act
• the inflation reduction act

In addition the president has acted to bring down the Putin spike in gas prices and to restore American leadership against climate change.

If you are mad about worldwide inflation then vote for the leaders who have actually fought it, and with some success compared to other developed nations. And the leaders who are standing up to Putin and standing up for Ukraine and democracies around the world. And who are standing up for democracy right here at home.

Do not vote for any election deniers!

Vote Democratic all the way down the ballot.
