Day eight of our California road trip was spent along California highway one north of San Simeon till we could go no further... a landslide has closed it. We were without cell service all day! What a gorgeous drive and what a glorious day! I couldn’t even call my Mom today — well, at one roadside park I could have used the pay phone; I didn’t know that those still exist! How can I edit the pics to a reasonable quantity?
John keeps a rod & reel handy. No nibbles this time. |
Brannon shows Clemmie critters in the tide pools. When Bran was Clem’s age we made up stories about jumping through tide pools to other worlds. |
Some of the treescapes made me wonder if John Paul Schulz’s creations might sometimes escape their dishes and grow to giant size along the shore. |
We didn’t feed these little beggars but someone has. |
We had great fun on this toppled but still growing conifer. At 74 I still aspire to climb trees. |
A young motorcyclist at this spot gave us a green pebble he found. |

The end of Highway One for now... the landslide completely covers the road. Tomorrow ( today now) we’ll make the big detour around this section and continue north to Carmel-by-the-Sea. |
