Stories on Blood Mountain

A great day for a drive through the North georgia Mountains...

Sheila and I sorta pulled into the Penland Apple House in Ellijay on a whim on our way to my ghost story gig at Vogel State Park. We hadn't talked about stopping there until the turn was practically on us.
As we were picking out a half-peck of Evercrisp apples I noticed this fellow on the opposite side of the Evercrisp shelves. I said to Sheila, "That looks like Marty!". So I called his name and he turned! It was Martin Penland Teem, my best friend from sixth grade through ninth grade. It was his first visit in a year to the Apple House operated by his cousins. He was there with his son's family. What are the chances?!
We didn't have a lot of time to spare, but still some neat things came up. He mentioned by name the colors of our brand new Chevy station wagon that we bought in 1960: Suntan Copper and Fawn Beige!
It's only the second time I've seen Marty in person since we've been grown. What a wonderful surprise!

At beautiful Vogel State Park to tell ghost stories again on Blood Mountain with my great storytelling friends Denise Mount and Kanute Rarey.

Here are the three tellers at our venue shortly before the program began.
