Gleaning Facebook: My Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day to the love of my life!

We've been going through boxes and boxes of pictures this week and I've been scanning some. This one is a little fuzzy but captures the brilliant, kind, beautiful young woman I talked into marrying me fifty years ago.
I am a fortunate fellow.

Valentine Roses for the Women in my Life

These five gorgeous roses were created for my sister Joan of Daddy's Roses by her granddaughter and my Very Grand Niece. I borrow them on this St. Valentine's Day to celebrate the women in my life, including my five wonderful sisters. (Joan, would you ask my VGN her fee for the electronic use of the roses?)

Since I have waxed sappy on more than one occasion about my Supreme Valentine and my Two Darling Daughters and my Marvelous Mama, I'll stop with:

Happy Valentine's Day!

Time Machine:

We found this little poem in 2024 among my Mother's papers in very rough form. She likely recopied it with further edits for Daddy on the Valentine's Day of their fortieth year of marriage -- 1978.

Happy Valentine's Day

                    by Ruth Baird Shaw

Happy Valentine's Day, My Love!
This verse is from my heart.
I could not find a card just right
At Rich’s or Kmart.
So with my pen and paper,
Sans talent and sans time,
I wrote for you this love note
In my infamous rhyme.
How do I say I love you
With words that your heart hears?
Browning counted up the ways;
I’ve totaled up the years.
How do I love thee?
Let me underscore
That 40 years count all the ways
That Browning named -- and more!
