Gleaning Facebook: Hairspray

It is so much fun to watch my daughter (Lillian) nail her role as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray the Musical. Congratulations, Lilylou! Break a leg again tonight.

Going tonight!

I heard she was marvelous!! Can't wait to see it!

Christy Davis
How was her voice? I was so worried when I saw the post saying she woke up with a sore throat.

Terrell Shaw
Her voice was fine. She claims it wasn't 100%, but the steroid shot and assorted teas seem to have worked. I couldn't tell that she was holding back at all.

Jackson Williamson
Glad to hear her voice returned!

--------------

Hairspray The Musical is one of the best productions ever at Rome Little Theater. The show moves seamlessly from the production announcements at lights-down through the curtain call. The acting is spot on, the voices are incredible, the orchestra rocks, the choreography is snappy, the costumes and set are near perfect, the light and sound were well done. That cast members were having fun and so were the audience members. Outside of one flubbed line, a little audio feedback, one dead mike, and an inside out dress (that I was told about but didn't notice), the show was about as near perfect as small-town community theater gets. There were lots of outstanding roles and moments but special kudos to (ahem) my daughter Lillian who plays the lead role (Tracy), but also to Russell Evans (Link), Beth McCain (Maybelle), and to Jonathan Chisholm (Edna). --- and Seaweed, Corny... and Velma, Penny...

It has been a fun show to work on. The cast are all very sweet and the drama has been on the stage. I have really enjoyed meeting all the new talented cast.

Any show with Karen Bowling at the helm will be a marvelous experience for all involved: cast, crew, and audience! She's a pro!

Laura Connelly
Oh how I miss my days at Rome Little Theater.

Terrell Shaw
I regret leaving out special mention of many other cast members above... I do not think I have seen a stronger performance from any cast member. Kudos to the whole bunch! It is a wonderful ensemble performance. Each cast member has stepped up and given it everything they have. The show is called Hairspray and is by definition, of course, often silly, and characters are painted with a broad brush, but within the conceits of the script the actors create real, believable characters.
