We MUST motivate our friends and neighbors to take a few minutes to go to their regular polling place between 7 AM and 7 PM THIS TUESDAY to cast just THREE votes:
Abeed Bawa - He can't help what his mama named him! He is young and full of optimism for his adopted town where his young son will grow up. AND he is determined to do what he can to Save Rome's Central Park! Please make Abeed one of our nine commissioners! Vote.
Sundai Stevenson - She knows her stuff. She has done the homework, knows the issues, and has the heart, the experience, the determination, and the know-how to be an outstanding member of our nine-member Commission. Elect a new voice for us. She has been absolutely plain that she will work to save our Central Park in every legal and ethical way. VOTE for Sundai.
Craig Mcdaniel - Craig is a shoe-in. He has great experience and knowledge. He is articulate and experienced. He will be a thoughtful member of our Commission. And he has pledged NOT to renew the Commission's terrible bargain with developers to destroy, level, and bury our endangered 80 acres. Vote for Craig McDaniel.
Now. You have three other votes. Withhold them. Allow those who support destroying our park to pick which incumbents they want to survive. By depressing the vote for incumbents we will also send a message, even though at least three of them will be re-elected. We DO NOT want our park destroyed.
Don't vote for Buzz. Or Bill I., or Evie, or any other incumbent.
Vote NO Incumbents!

The following bus from Melanie Abney's Facebook page. Thank you Melanie for these wonderful pictures and comments about our walk through Burwell wetland and forest.
Save what should be Rome's Central Park. Build somewhere else!
Burwell Creek Comment Barbara Cavenaugh Magical! It would be a shame to lose this beautiful place!
Beaver Dam under the bridge. We take our natural areas too much for granted.
Let's not put the drawings on these papers into existence. Save these wetlands.
There are so many "littles" that are crucial to the ecosystem. Wetlands hold so much importance to our environment. Please Google and research. Become educated!
Finding the littles hiding in the waters. This place gets deep very quickly!
A snail. I don't remember the species
A beetle. Of course these are the critters that didn't vacate because of the tours. A LOT of wildlife makes this area home.
Both the tour leaders did an awesome job.
A dragonfly nymph with its very own photo shoot!
Mosquito Fish. And guess what? I only saw ONE mosquito, during the whole tour. Destroy things, and we take away the very motion of keeping order in the ecosystem.
Looking for more Dragonfly nymphs. These two kids, I feel sure are not nature depraved. Kuddos to the parent!
Several Dragonfly nymphs. Can you imagine a world without dragonflies? They are huge consumers of mosquitos. The larvae eat anything smaller than themselves. We really need our wetlands.
If you haven't been here before...go see what we're about to lose before it's too late.
A beaver slide. This is where beavers drop off into Burwell Creek. There are a lot of beavers in this particular wetland area.
This area was once a landfill. This area is best left alone!
Former landfill is now a mature forest. How many of these do we have in downtown Rome, Georgia? It will be such a shame to replace this with a parking lot. Such. A. Shame! Comments
Barbara Cavenaugh
Yes it would be!
Cathy Conklin
A damn shame.
Teach your children to appreciate nature. It will pay off.
A very captive audience.
Can you imagine, boardwalks over beaver dams? A central park for all Romans, this is not a place for brick and mortar.
Now...erase this image and replace it with apartments. NO! Why on earth would we do that? This doesn't benefit our town. This area needs to be preserved! Comments
George Dean #ShaunKing #NewYorkPost#NewYorkTimes #CNN#USATODAY Barbara Cavenaugh It would be a shame! Catherine Furman BOY AM I EVER WITH YOU ON THIS!
This pup regularly walks the Burwell Creek area. Dog trails would be an awesome thing to see here. Comments Amber Clark Ware
So good to meet you today!! Melanie Abney It was nice meeting you! Cathy Matthews How sweet.. You looking good sweet lady Amber Clark Ware Thank you!! I had worked all morning so I wasn't really dressed for a hike through the wetlands but it was so much fun and very informative! Kendra Casey Chancey Great picture!!! Catherine Furman A very dear picture.
I hope someone tags this gentleman. He cares and knows his stuff! Comments David Marlin Rains
A voice crying in the wilderness
Lyn Davis He's a wonderful teacher, environmentalist, and uncle! Terrell Shaw Busy telling tonight at Cave Screams... Better hurry if you are coming. (Thx Lyn & Kevin...and David... I think. ) Terrell Shaw 2018 update: I had forgotten who took this great picture of me. Thank you Melanie Abney. I hope it is OK that I have used this photo a lot -- most recently on my business card.
More listeners.
Kids are our future. Let them learn to preserve things that can't be gotten back, like destroying wetlands for un-needed development.
A tree where the beavers have whittled the bark away.
One last look at a dam in Burwell Creek. This tour was well worth the time. Go visit here if you haven't already. See what will be gone in a blink if something doesn't change.
Comment from Larry Madden:
Thank you for a good story as only you can project.
It would be so sad if these developers steal this jewel from future kids and grandchildren. They are rushing to destruction and the opportunity to stick dollars in their pockets. Sad, sad sad!
Greed comes in many forms and this is the ultimate.....
