One busy week! Oh how wonderful it is to see this beautiful little girl so alert and pink and healthy looking. And her Mom looks absolutely beautiful too. Huge pieces of my heart are in this picture.
Many of Clementine’s tubes and other attachments have been removed. She is eating well. We hope the feeding tube will be removed tomorrow morning. The fears of a week ago ago are all but gone and we are in great and thankful anticipation of taking Clementine Georgia Carlin home to Vista in a few days.
Thanks to all our friends for the kind words of encouragement and hope, for your prayers and warm thoughts, and for the great love we have felt this week.
Spending many hours in the waiting areas and halls of the wonderful Rady Children’s Hospital we have seen lots of frightened parents, brave kids, and dedicated, caring health workers from custodians and receptionists and snack shop clerks and parking attendants to nurses and doctors.
Warning, Heartfelt Political Statement ahead —
As the grandfather of a child born into an expensive emergency medical storm, I pray for the day when Americans covenant together to share the costs of our health needs like the rest of the developed world does. I ache for the folks who must face such circumstances without the financial safeguards that our Clementine enjoys. The tears and fears I and my loved ones have endured this week could have been much worse. If we can share the costs of roads and missiles and water systems and education and hurricane recovery, we can share the costs of healthcare. Amen.
