Gleaning Facebook: Remembering the Arrival of 1971

Tonight we are sacked out well before midnight here in Junction, Texas. I hear fireworks outside and am reminded that back home it is already 2022.

And sweet memories come to mind.
On this night 51 years ago I spent New Year's Eve (and New Year's early morning) with Sheila Matthews. We celebrated in Blountstown, Florida that night... driving across the Apallachicola River to celebrate at midnight in the Eastern time zone, then back across the river to celebrate a second time in the Central time zone. When we got back around 2 or so to Highland Drive in Tallahassee we pulled to the side of that dirt road a few doors down from her parents for a good night/New Year's kiss and I uttered those very special words for the very first time: "I love you."
I still do.
The bridge over the Appalachicola River at Blountstown (and Bristol) Florida. The river is the boundary at that point between the Central and Eastern time zones.
