Gleaning Facebook: Kennesaw Mountain

Another of those cheesy hold-the-camera-at-arms-length snaps. The trail to the summit from near the welcome center. Beautiful day for a climb.

The road climbs ever, ever, up...

See the Atlanta skyline at Sheila's right ear? Follow the skyline nearly to the tree and you'll see the little hump that is Stone Mountain.

The Rebs hauled their cannon to the summit and dug these works to shield them as they faced the Northern menace.

Sherman wanted to whup the Reb army here so he could head on to the railroad center, Atlanta. in the distance.

A geodetic survet marker at the summit.

Ta-dah! At the top.

Off to the north you can see Armuchee ridges.

The boulder strewn path on the way down.

Very flattering angle for everyone involved, Dad. Tip from a pro: take the picture from above, not below. pastedGraphic.png

Yeah, yeah, Mom wants it deleted too. I was trying to get the path in the background, which goes up.

took Lawson to Floyd (Highlands) marsh walk yesterday. We added to our bird "have-seen" list: red-winged blackbird and belted kingfisher! He's loving this outdoor stuff. Let me know about the best time to go to Pidgeon Mountain for the wildflower hike.

There's a BotSoc field trip to Pigeon Mountain the last weekend in March.
