Sheila and I watch It's a Wonderful Life at least once each Christmas season. We can mouth many lines of dialog right along with the actors. And like the author of this article we have cringed and laughed at the ridiculous scene where "old maid" Mary is revealed as a -- oh no!-- unmarried librarian! This article by Claire Coffey in The Bulwark, rings true to me. Without Mary. where would George be? Where would the movie be?
