Gleaning Facebook: A Little Bit of Eden

This afternoon I walked back into a little bit of Eden right in Downtown Rome, Burwell Creek/City Duck Pond area, to show it to Sheila. This is the gorgeous wetland and wildlife filled green space that the Rome News has dismissed - with no evidence - as blighted. If you want to preserve this parkland in our city's center for our children and grandchildren please:

• write the Rome News
• call a city commissioner
• sign the online petition at www.coosa.org
• join Coosa River Basin Initiative (same website)
• share Mandy Loorham's gorgeous pictures or Bill Schroeder's post (below) on your Facebook wall

Tersi Bendiburg So pretty!

Jann Heaton Skeen She IS pretty! Wonder how Mr. Shaw got such a pretty lady?!

Terrell Shaw Also... remember that our commissioners are basically good guys who want good things for their children and grandkids too. I just think they have some wrong info on this. So be polite with 'em. I think anyone who takes this walk and hears the story of the history of this site and the proposed shopping center project will agree with us. But if all you know is that there used to be a landfill on part of this property and if you think the shopping center will produce jobs that would not exist otherwise, you'd be tempted to support it.

Laura Lee Hitchcock I'm signing, I want to keep the duck pond and wetland areas~!

Joe Cook Everyone should go check out the Burwell Creek wetlands this week! It is quite a nice stroll on a beautiful spring afternoon. And, it might be the last spring you'll be able to enjoy this solitude if the Rome City Commission follows through on current plans to sell the property for a 60-acre shopping center!

Joe McKenzie I spent a lot of time with my science students on Burwell Creek!
