Gleaning Facebook: Sturgeon

Arrowhead Environmental Education Center and the Georgia DNR fisheries folk have been involved for several years in trying to bring back the Lake Sturgeon to our watershed. As recently as the fifties these huge and ancient fish were being caught in our rivers. Now we are raising them from Wisconsin eggs in our hatcheries and releasing them once again into our waters. And elementary students are participating in the release. Last week students in Kristi Taylor's and Holly Bettler's classes at Armuchee Elementary met us at the Highway 140 boat ramp on the Oostanaula to make the latest fingerling deposits from its banks. It was a great time for all involved. I include not only photographic documentation, but some of the sketches of the little sturgeon created by the third-graders in Ms. Bettler's class.
