Yes, Pray for the President

The president's hateful comments at the National Prayer Breakfast are further evidence not only of his vitriol toward all who oppose him but also of his astounding lack of basic cultural literacy.

Any one with ears to hear and eyes to see has known.

The President of the United States refers to the Apostle Paul's second letter to the church at Corinth as "Two Corinthians."

He believes Frederick Douglass is "doing an amazing job."

Article Two, he claims, grants him the "right to do whatever I want as president."

He opines that Andrew Jackson  was "really angry" when he saw what was "happening with regard to the Civil War" (which started sixteen years after Old Hickory's demise).

And now he does not understand that Christ instructs his followers to "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you".

I regret that there are likely millions of grown-up Americans who are equally ignorant of the Bible, black history, Civil war history, the Constitution, basic Christian beliefs. He, however, is the successor of Washington, Adams. Jefferson, Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Truman, Ike, Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Obama --- and other similarly brilliant men who read widely, studied the Constitution and the Bible. These were men who knew what America is all about. That a president could be so abysmally ignorant of the Bible is gobsmacking; ours is a deliberately secular government, but how can you understand America without a basic understanding of the Christianity of the vast majority of its citizens over the last 244 years? That a President could stand before thousands beneath the portico of our beautiful Capitol and swear allegiance to a Constitution with which he has barely even a passing acquaintance is frightening. It is just sad that a man could pretend to serve as the 45th President of the United States when he has virtually no appreciation for the crises and challenges faced by the other 44 or the principles that undergirded their administrations.

I despise Donald John Trump's corruption, his cruel policies, his spitefulness, his boorish behavior, his ignorance. But as to the man himself, I do my best the squelch hate in myself whenever it raises its ugly head. I pity Donald Trump rather than hate him as a person. He seems like a man who has never known love. What would I be like had I been raised without love?

So I sincerely hope, wish, pray for Donald John Trump, a child of God, to find Love.  John tells us that God is Love. While I will continue to pray for Trump personally I will also do all in my limited power to defeat him politically so that the evil he has done and will do can be stopped.

Get involved, friends. In America We, the People, are in charge.

Yes, pray for the President...

...and Congress, the Supreme Court, local and state leaders that they might ..."act justly ... love mercy and ... walk humbly with .. God"
