I have never been so jolted by a political ad as I was as I watched Game Two of the 2022 World Series. Who are these "Citizens for Sanity" who so blatantly side with Vladimir Putin and call Putin's fascistic war against Ukraine as "Biden's war"?!! Turns out they are the Stephen Miller ilk. The famous "America First" fascists.
It is time for Americans who believe in the small-r republican tenets of our Constitution to stand up and be counted. The so-called Citizens for Sanity, like the Q-Anon/MTG crowd proudly used the slogan of Hitler's American buddies in the thirties: "America First". The "America First" crowd has never actually put our republic first, not when Hitler was their champion nor nowadays when Putin, Orban, and Trump hold their hearts.
Folks it is up to EVERY generation to stand by our republic. Humans are humans. We are vulnerable to populist authoritarians just as surely as the Germans of the thirties and the Russians of today. There are no guarantees. Our rights are guaranteed only so far as each generation respects the will of the majority and the human rights of all as laid down in our Constitution and laws.
