Gleaning Facebook: Trinity in the Snow

Many much admired folk have their names engraved here.
I assume M.D. is Dwain Moore,
Bill Ergle,
Leonard Hancock (I can see him in my mind's eye, mowing our lawn at the parsonage when we pulled up, home from vacation that summer of '65. He was mowing as he waited to tell us that my grandfather had died.),
Jim Formby (Daddy's banker, and later mine,
Burnita Burton (I called her my "manager" she frequently lined me up singing gigs at AARP, the retired federal employees group, and the retirees group at Villa Rica Methodist.),
Clifford Evans,
Ivanelle Fricks,
Hugh Holt,
Bob Candler (who sang with me in the choir for a couple of decades),
Martha King (next door neighbor to the church and legendary participant in Methodist church governance at all levels),
Paul Craven (Paula's daddy who had built our house -the parsonage- a coup[le of years before we moved into it,
RO Lindsey,
Lewis Mixon (another fellow choir member).
Joe Tarpley and Paul Camp are still at church almost every Sunday.
Every single one of these was a leader in the church during my father's ministry at Trinity 1962-1967.
Lavern Mobley served Trinity from 1967-71. The fellowship hall is named Mobley Hall in his honor.

This is just outside what is now the parlor. The 1924 addition now includes the memorial entrance, the parlor, the sacristy and old kitchen downstairs, and the choir room, music room and, I think, the pastor's, and associate pastor's offices.

This is the cornerstone of the sanctuary. It is on the right corner as you face the front door. The church was founded in 1875 as Desoto Methodist Episcopal Church, South. By 1886 Desoto had been annexed into Rome and the church was renamed Second Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Sometime after 1900 it was renamed Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church, South. In 1939 the Methodist Epicopal Church South and its Northern counterpart, as well as the Methodist Protestant Church united and we became, simply, Trinity Methodist Church. Finally the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren joined and we became Trinity United Methodist Church.

According to the Rome News Tribune, Second Methodist changed their name to Trinity on June 10, 1915.

This shows how the C. 1950 addition was connected to the 1924 addition and the original sanctuary with an extension to the front with a new front door about four or five feet in front of the old door. That allowed a new door to be cut from the left side of the sanctuary and, opposite that door a stairway to the second floor of the main section of the new addition.
