Richard Clarke: While You Were Warring

Craig at Donkey Path pointed the way to this article by Richard Clarke discussing the cost of our “7-year-old’s soccer syndrome” approach to the Iraq problem. Our leaders have been so overwhelmed by the demands of the war in Iraq, he says, they have largely ignored the following pressing issues, all of which have become greater problems during the last six years:
  • Global warming (We saw in the new year in our shirt sleeves tonight.)
  • Russian revanchism (I had to look it up.)
  • Latin America’s leftist lurch (Fidel was the only Latin leftist six years ago: count 'em now.)
  • Africa at war
  • Arms control freeze
  • Transnational crime
  • The Pakistani-Afghan border
Check it out.
