Gleaning Facebook: The Inauguration

Today is a great day! We celebrate the heritage of non-violence and civil rights on MLK Day while we also celebrate our peaceful system that inaugurates a democratically-elected President to another four-year term.

Singing along with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir... Glory!

Wow. The power of music never fails to astound. If you didn't hear this find it on YouTube this evening. His truth is marching on...

---------

Yay, Joe! (And Justice Sotomayor)

---------

Sweet Baby James and our National Hymn.

---------

21 guns! Way to go, Mr. President! Way to go, America!

Christy Davis
Ironic, considering the latest issue that's got the conservatives in a froth...

---------

How many people?!

Freddie Ashley
You mean in attendance at the inauguration? Last estimate I heard on ABC was 800,000.

Terrell
Wow!

Ann Pullen
Hard to even move your arms it was so crowded!

---------

Self-evident truths are not self-executing. Each generation has a job to do.

---------

We, the People.

---------

Our journey is not complete.

---------

We must act.

---------

You and I as citizens have the power to set this nation's course.

My Country 'Tis of Thee
Nora Matthews
Sweet land of liberty

I remember Robert Frost doing this. One sun.

A Gift Outright?

One wind. Our breath.

Terrell Shaw
One sky.

Terrell Shaw
One country... together.

John Countryman
I remember that day like yesterday!

OH MY. A beautiful interpretation of our National Anthem. I usually like it very straight. This was my favorite stylized version of the anthem. Gorgeous.

Terrell Shaw
And the embarrassing thing is that, tho I have been aware that there is a singer named Beyonce, I could not have picked her out of a line-up. I could now. A beautiful, talented woman.

Natalie A. A. Thiele
i'm with you-- i like a non-embellished version, but Beyonce did an excellent job. looks like she had technical difficulties to overcome, too, so extra excellent.

John Paul Schulz
I liked the way she hit the high note right on and then went on and hit it an octave higher just to show it warn't no fluke.

Dan Bevels
It was indeed worth the effort they put forth in the studio to perfect it. http://www.usatoday.com/.../beyonce-buzz-was-she.../1855123/

Mr. President, you gave a beautiful, challenging speech. America it is time to act. We can fuss and fight and disagree. That is democracy. But we must reach compromise and act. Even Great Compromise.
