Gleaning Facebook: Inauguration Eve 2017


Thank you Mr. President. I am so proud to have voted for and campaigned for your historic presidency, twice. America has a way to go still, but, oh!, it is more perfect in so many ways than eight years ago.

Our nation has been incredibly blessed to have the steady, patriotic, wise, principled leadership of Barack Obama for the last eight years. God bless Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and their families.

Oh my. So many great memes out there tonight.

Some are expressing their unease with laughs, some with rants. Surely no more scary political moment in our history since March 3, 1861. This time it is not Lincoln speaking on Inauguration Day. I'm sure his writers will put some unifying words into the speech. He may remind us of Lincoln's or Jefferson's or -- no, not Obama's -- words. But we have seen during the transition that the Donald Trump we have seen is, indeed, the real Donald Trump.
So I'll read other speeches. And plan for resistance.

I walked into the den, switched on the TV, and witnessed a nauseating sight: the Great Narcissist saluting the Great Emancipator at the Lincoln Memorial. God save our great nation from this evil *****grabber, tax evader, congenital liar, loser of the vote of WE the People (by nearly three million ballots), petulant child, obsessive tweeter, transition failure, business failure, and the only future-President to display his sexual insecurities so blatantly to the entire nation. ("I guarantee you there's no problem. I guarantee.")
What a wimp. What a child. What a crook. What a psycho.
I have great respect for the presidency, for our peaceful transition of power -- even when the the Electoral College produces an outrage against republican values.
But there is no requirement of patriots to respect an immoral, unethical, dishonest, crude, admittedly criminal, narcissistic, authoritarian boor who managed to gain the office through a perfect storm of lies, foreign intervention, and chance. As a matter of fact it is incumbent on patriots to resist this monstrosity wherever legally and ethically possible.
Yes, we must accept, at noon, that the spoiled child is president, until heaven, Congress, the People, or the 25th or the 22nd Amendment intervenes. But I for one will remind my fellow Americans as often as possible of the man's moral illegitimacy.

Laurie Craw The inauguration ceremony will never be the same for me because the Office of the President of the United States of America has been so degraded by this unworthy, vulgar, immoral man whose oath to our country will mean nothing because his word means nothing.

Terrell Shaw That's exactly how I feel. I have stubbornly wished even Reagan and Bush2 well when my heart was breaking... this is different.

Harriett Haase I think it is time you realized we have a new president and get behind him with prayer not your rants. It is my understanding that God raises up leaders. Why not give him a chance to prove his leadership ability.

Jim Villella Ms. Haase, I was tempted to send you the text of this man who you claim God raised up when he talked about what he tried to do to a woman and what he does to women, but politeness and decency holds me back. This may come as a surprise to you but he deeply offended many, many Americans. I for one, as a veteran, was and remain deeply offended by his cavalier treatment of war hero John McCain and the Gold Star family and his months-long campaign that has turned Americans against their own government. In the process, he insulted a sitting President of the U.S. by lying about his birthplace. So take a deep breath and get used to those who do not think God had anything to do with "raising up" such a narcissistic megalomaniac expressing their Constitutionally protected right to question his motives.

Terrell Shaw The man has had since Nov 8 to show some tiny inkling of being "raised up" to the position he will assume. Still he tweets juvenile, shallow, mean-spirited, thoughtless, dangerous, asinine, excremental sewage. So, till he finds some kind of redemption, some hint of human concern, some inkling of motives beyond jealousy, hate, narcissism, and insecurity, --- till then --- I will resist. I can do no other and face myself in the mirror.

Terrell Shaw Good Lord, Harriett, this spoiled child bragged on tape about his sexual assaults, he mocked a handicapped man, he tweeted insults at the slightest disagreement from any & everyone, he has insulted our allies and embraced our enemies. He is a seventy year old man who has been in the public eye for many decades and has never shown the slightest civic spirit. He has had ample "chance."

David Matheny I'll pray for Trump to amend his ways and have his Eyes Opened to our Nation's Diversity and Opened to the Devastation his Policies will cause to America. ...and Trump is employed by US, the American People. We owe him nothing and His Office, Everything.

John Countryman Trump has no idea what leadership means. Obama practiced servant leadership. Trump will practice demagoguery.

Suanne Bierman Laqueur He's had chances all his life to serve the public and took none. He's never done anything that doesn't directly benefit him or aggrandize himself. He doesn't know how to lead, only how to bully. He's highly unlikely to change his basic human nature at age 70. He disgusts me. That's highly unlikely to change either.

Ken Gossett Lets all pray that for the next few years our safety and stability will be watched and secured by God. I don't trust Trump to do it.

Ralph Davis Only an epiphany or other life changing experience will change who he has been for the last 50 years. It is imperative that WE continue to voice our feelings, respectfully ( although it's hard to go high when they go low), be squeaky wheels to get the oil to which the party in power must respond. Always
