[Later Note: I remember well standing in my Daddy's study in Ellijay, Georgia in about 1960 and listening to him describe the evils that he and my uncles fought in World War II. Now he has descendants who support Donald Trump. How?]

My Dad Helped Keep the Nazis Away, and Now!

On Wednesday Donald Trump said "We love you" and "You are special", to people attacking the very temple of western democracy. At least one guy was so bold as to wear a hoodie that said "Camp Auschwitz-Work Brings Freedom" These are the words written over the entrance to Auschwitz. Many if not most of these folks came from groups and organizations proudly promoting racism and antisemitism.

My father grew up in the peace believing Church of the Brethren and served in a non-combat position in WW-2, the Merchant Marines. He worked in the boiler room of a merchant ship bringing supplies to the troops in Europe. He told me of the "tink, tink, tink" he heard of the mines bumping against the hull of the ship as it slowly passed through mine infested waters"

Hundreds of thousands of American men and women died in WW-2 to keep the Nazis away from American shores and now we have a President who actually loves Nazis and racists and thinks they are special.

I have been criticized at times for being too political on FaceBook. I fear I have not been political enough. How could anyone not see the monster that this man was when he ran for President 5 years ago, given all we knew about him, even then.

Many people I know and love voted for him. I still love them. I just cannot understand. Were tax cuts, deregulation and conservative justices worth the price of having this Nazi sympathizer in the White House, not to mention his extreme racism, pathological lying and total lack of any values, Christian or otherwise? What about his total disrespect for democratic values and principles his corrupt and dishonest business practices?

Is fear of (perceived) Socialism worth giving in to Fascism?

Forgive me if I have offended you but I truly can't understand how anyone could have voted for this depraved madman.

God save us from him and his followers.
