2020 Advent Decorating

----

Update: We added an upstairs front porch Christmas tree today. And we have put out my grandmothers plastic carolers by the front door.

----

We discovered last Friday that Sheila and I have been exposed to the Covid virus. Neither of us is sick. We feel fine. We got a test on Saturday morning and have not yet gotten results. The latest advice we can get is that we should have waited a few days to get the test and that we should continue to quarantine for ten full days if we continue without symptoms. [Later note: Both of us tested negative; yay! We will continue to quarantine for 10 days -- through next Sunday -- just to be sure.] So we are stuck at home.

I am spending a portion of each day ...

  • Trying to be a least minimally competitive with my brilliant wife on the New York Times online Spelling Bee game.
  • Walking on the treadmill and occasionally on the sidewalk or levee
  • Writing posts on this blog.
  • Eating.
  • Fooling with my political collection.
  • Fretting over the January run-off (Could the GOP have found two worse candidates than Perdue and Loeffler? Perdue chickened out of the debate altogether and Loeffler was a dadgum one-note robot!)
  • And decorating the house for just us, since there will be no guests this season. So far we have up the window wreaths and porch garlands, porch lights, and three and a half Christmas trees.

So here are our trees...

When Brannon and John were here shortly before Christmas a few years ago John won a door prize at a festival we attended. Sheila took the little folk-art wooden tree and dressed it up a bit for a corner of the den...

In a back window of the den we put up a little three-foot pre-lit tree. Of course pre-lit trees never work two years in a row, so Sheila spent an hour snipping the old wiring off the tree before we strung new lights on it. At an estate sale last year I bought a box of crocheted Christmas snowflakes -- no two alike. We decided to use those on this tree. Don't they look nice?...

In the small bay window in the front "City Clock" bedroom we put up a seven-foot tree...

Our big tree is in our bigger bay window in the living room.
